Mediation Matters

What is mediation?

Not to be confused with “meditation” – Mediation is a private, informal and confidential process designed to result in a written agreement that provides each party with a better outcome than they would have if no agreement was reached.

Mediation is NOT therapy, nor should it be considered a substitute for therapy when that service is needed. When therapy is not needed but communication is difficult, mediation can provide a structured process for dialogue.

A Mediator does not provide legal advice to, nor advocate for any party. When mediation sessions are held parties are encouraged to seek the advice of legal counsel before signing an agreement.

Everyone wants to be heard. Mediation offers the opportunity for you to be heard, as well as a chance for you to hear and understand another’s point of view.

The mediator does not make any decisions. The mediator helps explore all options and consequences and helps maintain the balance of power between the parties.
